American Union (In Production)

In the most significant labour movement of modern US history, a group of Alabama miners and amazon warehouse workers fight for their livelihoods, their communities and for the future of working America.

‘American Union’ follows a fight for the American Dream; for the promise of job security and a fair wage for those willing to work hard. The film traces a path between between two Alabama towns situated just thirty-miles apart but separated by over 150 years of industrialisation.

In Brookwood, a unionised group of coal miners battle to save their jobs in an increasingly bitter strike against the mining company they helped save from bankruptcy just five years earlier. Meanwhile, up the road in Bessemer, a group of warehouse workers attempt to unionise the world’s largest tech employer, amazon.

‘American Union’ takes us to the frontline of the struggle to shape labour relations in the South. A fight to define what the future of work looks like in the face of a fast-shifting economy; to keep alive the American Dream for us all.
