“Indeterminate Distances” was written as part of the film programme at transmediale festival in Berlin, 2021 / 2022.
Responding to the festival theme of ‘for refusal’, the essay adopts the format of a conversation between a film editor and the images gathered in the filming process. Through the discussion, the editor begins to question their desire for certain types of images by deconstructing their meanings. A process that equips the editor with the power ‘to refuse’ the power and spectacle of the image.
Indeterminate Distances can be read here.
The essay was further published in the AHRC publication ‘A Book for Research that is Art’ in 2022. In collaboration with Northumbria University and the University of Sunderland.
